Puerta Roja presents world-renowned digital pioneer Miguel Chevalier and Spanish rising star Javier León Pérez in the inaugural edition of Art Central, Hong Kong
Puerta Roja, the only gallery in Asia Pacific to specialise in Latin American and Spanish art, has been selected as one of the top Hong Kong based galleries to participate in the inaugural edition of the new ground breaking fair Art Central. Held from 13 – 16 March 2015, Art Central is the first satellite fair of the highest international standards to be staged in Hong Kong. Art Central will welcome the art-loving Hong Kong public alongside an international audience of collectors, curators and art enthusiasts to a vibrant and fresh new event in the Art Week calendar. Art Central is timed to complement Art Basel and the growing popularity of Hong Kong Art Week, positioning the city firmly as one of the world’s leading art hubs.
Adriana Alvarez-Nichol, founder of Puerta Roja and Vice-President of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association quotes, “As the only gallery in Asia Pacific specialized in Latin American and Spanish art, we are very familiar with the importance of international satellite fairs in the development and success of major global art centers such as London, Paris, and in particular, Miami. We are thrilled that Hong Kong will continue to grow in this direction with the presence of Art Central. The fair will significantly increase the interest of international collectors to come to Hong Kong not only for Art Basel, but for all the city has to offer during Art Week” Art Central takes place on the new Central Harbourfront in a 10,000 square meter temporary structure, the likes of which have not been seen in Hong Kong before.
This enviable location on Victoria Harbour will make a bold statement on the Hong Kong skyline. The fair’s Co-Director, Maree Di Pasquale states, “We are hugely excited to be launching Art Central. Not only does the fair provide further reason for collectors to come into town during Art Week, as it will complement their Art Basel experience, it also invite the Hong Kong pubic to engage with museum quality works. We will be showcasing the next generation of talent alongside the most established contemporary galleries and art spaces from around the world in the most prominent satellite fair Hong Kong has ever seen.”
Elizabeth Lackey, Puerta Roja’s Gallery Director says, “We are delighted that Puerta Roja will have a privileged spot in Art Central which will feature over 70 galleries from Asia Pacific and the world, and will present contemporary work from both established artists and a range of newer talent. In line with the spirit of the fair, our booth will showcase both the works of internationally acclaimed digital artist Miguel Chevalier and one of our youngest rising stars Javier León Pérez. Since we have started working with Javier last year, his works have sold straight out in Art Jakarta, KIAF and Art Taipei. We are certain Hong Kong and international collectors will be attracted by both the works of a blue chip artist like Miguel, but will also be looking for discoveries of new artist such as Javier”.
