Puerta Roja presents world-renowned digital pioneer Miguel Chevalier and Spanish rising star Javier León Pérez in the inaugural edition of Art Central, Hong Kong
As the only gallery specialised in promoting Latin American and Spanish art in Asia, Puerta Roja will be one of the top international galleries bringing a global flavour to the 7th edition of Harper’s Bazaar Art Jakarta, 27-30 August 2015.
The gallery, who returns for a second time after a successful first participation last year, will bring a strong mix of both established and emerging artists. A highlight of Puerta Roja’s participation this year will be the exhibition of the striking generative virtual works by world renowned Miguel Chevalier, icon and pioneer of digital art. Chevalier will also be participating in the fair’s VIP programme on Friday, 28 August from 5-6pm speaking on the topic of New Media Art.
The artist visit to Jakarta, follows the inauguration of Chevalier’s generative and interactive virtual-reality installation, “Pixel Wave, 2015” for the Singapore Night Festival on the 21st of August at the National Design Center, Singapore. Born in Mexico and based in Paris, Miguel has been dedicated to the exploration of technology, using computers as an artistic means of expression since 1978 – before the personal computer became available to the public. Unlike most digital art, played in video ‘loops’ Miguel’s work is activated through ‘generative technology’, which allows his ‘Virtual Gardens’ to re-generate infinitely in constant metamorphosis. No moment or flower will ever be same.
Miguel Chevalier’s recent projects include an iconic digital installation projected onto the façade of the Grand Palais during Paris Art Fair; Magic Carpets, an interactive light display in the former Sacré Coeur church in Morocco and at the Castel del Monte in Italy. His work, The Origin of The World, an immersive virtual reality installation, was one of the featured pieces at Metamorphosis of the Virtual 5 + 5, a group exhibition at the K11 Art Museum in Shanghai. The artist also collaborated with Samsung after being commissioned to create a digital installation that merges art with the latest Samsung HD Curved TV.
