Moroccan Patterns go Digital in a Series of Shows By Artist Miguel Chevalier
Mitchell Gilburne
“Artist Miguel Chevalier’s Digital Arabesques 2015 replicates Moroccan ornamentation with a touch of the psychedelic. The intricacies of zellige tilework and the minutiae of lace and arabesques are represented within the constantly shifting patterns of the installation’s surface. Infrared sensors work overtime as children bound across a starry tessellation of trailing sunbursts, and patterns ripple, break, and reform in the wake of subtle moments. The result is an illuminated magic carpet that is as much a playground as it is a work of art.”
