SoHo189 Art Lane 1st Anniversary Party

(Hong Kong, 9 March, 2016) Following the overwhelming success of its launch in 2015, SOHO 189 Art Lane is thrilled to celebrate its first anniversary with its fellow art lovers and food connoisseurs. Featuring four galleries, two dining outlets and a leading hair salon, SOHO 189 Art Lane is the next generation in the city’s innovative, artistic yet customer friendly exhibition venues. A celebration party will be held on 17 March, 2016.

Providing collectors with a special preview of the featured exhibitions to be held concurrently to Hong Kong Arts Month, the four galleries, namely Pearl Lam Galleries, Galerie Huit, Leo Gallery and Puerta Roja, will be presenting an impactful and diverse selection of artworks and special installations from Italy, Spain, Germany, France and China from 18 March 2016 onwards, introducing an emergence between Asian and Western art. With all of the artists having travelled from around the world to be present for the celebration and with highly ambitious installations on show, this is a special opportunity for collectors to immerse themselves in art before the openings of Art Basel and Art Central in the following week.

Pearl Lam Galleries presents China Clean, an exhibition of sculptural designs by Italian designer and entrepreneur Enrico Marone Cinzano. Eight pieces of luxury, sustainable furniture will be displayed in the exhibition, many of which have been created in response to the designer’s visits to China, as well as exploration of its culture, aligning with Marone Cinzano’s renowned expertise in creating durable creative pieces that connect with nature.

Right next door, Galerie Huit will showcase Everything is and isn’t at the same time by renowned international collective Troika. The gallery will present signature two-dimensional works and sculptures made from a wide array of media including soot, dice and electricity. At the centre of the gallery will hang ‘The Sum of all Possibilities’, a sculpture characterised by an apparent infinite metamorphosis which is in reality a 12-minute loop with a limited number of combinations. The sculpture recalls the usual circular path of the viewer around an object, which offers an innovative experience for viewing this extraordinary piece.

Around the corner, at Leo Gallery, Chinese artist Zhang Lehua will present his latest series ‘All About’ in the exhibition True Exist Void curated by Dai Zhuoqun. Zhang, in recent years, has adopted the interaction between moving images and painting as infiltrated media in his creation. When working on his paintings, the artist threw himself into a film projected on the wall and attempted to depict it. Whilst the video was played on the wall covered with canvas, he started to ‘sketch’ the change of the video scenes. His work can be regarded as life drawing (xiesheng), and the pieces shown in ‘All About’ carry the notion that the objects ‘exist’ thus they are ‘true’, but eventually they are presented as ‘void’ on the canvas.

‘Anamnesis: the reasoned doubt’ with works by María García Ibañez and Javier León Pérez will be displayed at Puerta Roja on the 1st Floor. Curated by Pilar Cano Romero, the exhibition presents a brand new series of works stemming from a collaboration between the two young Spanish artists that have captured the imagination of collectors across the Asia-Pacific. In addition to individual works categorised by the almost obsessive detailed techniques of each artist and a joint edition series specially made for Puerta Roja, the artists and curator will intervene Puerta Roja’s whole gallery space to create an immersive environment.

Accompanying the exhibitions, the authentic yet fun tapas bar & restaurant La Paloma and the renowned trattoria Va Bene will be launching their special art menus* on the night and these art menus will be available throughout Hong Kong Arts Month to offer guests a special taste of food art inspired by Spanish and Italian artists. Guests are welcome to help themselves with complimentary canapés from both restaurants served in the galleries throughout the evening of celebrations; complimentary drinks will also be served at the ABSOLUT station situated outside Va Bene. To enjoy an authentic Italian and Spanish dining experiences, customers are welcome to check with the two restaurants’ a la carte special menu.

An artist himself, Kim Robinson and his stylists will offer, at kr+ Salon, complimentary hair touch up service during the event while appreciating the original artworks created by Kim Robinson that are on display in the salon. After the hair styling service, guests will be invited to participate and interact with the kr+ ME Wall, a collage of selfies as a form of interactive and digital art installation.

As the night goes on, street artists will perform live street art paintings, in the background of live music. The evening will be a dynamic and exciting art experience that offers our guests wide-ranging forms of art, including visual art, installation, food and beauty. SOHO 189 Art Lane, after a year of success with exceptional support from the public, promises to bring collectors, socialites and the art-loving crowd a novel perspective of appreciating, enjoying and becoming part of a booming art scene in Hong Kong. The public will be given a taste of SOHO 189 Art Lane, as well as how the art community has developed in its first year. As art of different genres from around the world continues to prosper, this block comprised of art and leisure is booming in the heart of western Hong Kong.
